Web UI/UX + print
Client: Free From Fear

Free from Fear was established in 2014 when a Gwent group of social landlords came together to improve responses to domestic abuse within social housing. In 2017 I was asked to design the user experience for an information resource that operational housing staff could use to quickly respond in the correct manner to those experiencing or perpetrating Domestic Abuse.

The key criteria were: ease of access, speed of access, legibility, bi-lingual in English and Welsh, device agnostic/responsive (smartphone, tablet or desktop computer) and the ability to vastly expand the amount of information on the system over time. Additionally, I designed printed promotional materials and their brand presence on Twitter.

Once my design concepts for the website were complete, they were passed over to Website Express, a Cardiff-based Drupal development agency.

Homepage UI design

The top area of the site provides simple access to search, switch languages and the three main content areas which are colour coded throughout. Provision is also made for quick links to essential tools and a colourful introduction to the project and a link to more information about the organisation.

Below the top line content sits boxes detailing partners of the project and testimonials from clients who have accessed the organisation in the past.

Content UI design

The content sections were colour-coded to their section and numerous options were given within the main text area to add concertina content, intra-site and external links and citations.

As with all web UX work I do, this project was designed to work across all devices in a smooth manner, without sacrificing any information on smaller screen sizes.

Promotional materials

To support the launch of the new website, I was asked to design some printed materials for events. The materials needed were a pull-up banner and a DL flyer.

The pull-up banner was designed to reflect the branding solution developed for the website and deliver a punchy message.

The brief for the leaflet was to create a solution for people to leave contact information with staff attending events. My solution was a tear off perforated area at the bottom of the leaflet (the dark green area). The leaflet was printed with English on one side and Welsh on the other.

Social media branding

Unified branding across all media platforms is important for any organisation, no matter how big or small. The simple addition of the recognisable 'sun' image as a header and a "square" version of the Free From Fear logo tied their social media account into the website.
